AUCTIONEERS' REPORT,

TIMAKU. Messrs Grscie, Maclean and Adam report for the fortnight ending Saturday as follows: Horses On the 19th inst., we entered for sale 88 head of all descriptions, bat as the quality in both draughts and light horses was, with few exceptions, be'ow the average, sales wore difficult to effect. To-day only about 20 head were entered. Competition for good young draughts was fairly good, and all lots with leasonable reserves placed on them were sold. We quote medium to good draughts at from £l4 to £22 ; inferior, £8 to £l2 10s; harks, (medium), £8 10s to £l4 ; light and weedy, £3 to £6 10s. Bbeep—We sold at Makikihi, on the 14th mat., 99 2-tooths at 8s Id, 58 fat ewes at 7s 6d, 40 lambs at 6s. At Washdyke, 77 fat ewes at 6s 9d, 89 do do at 6s 6J, 98 ewes at 5s 6d, 132 halfbred wethers at 9s, 99 ewes at ss, 91 ewes at 5s 6d, 163 ewes and wethers at 5s 91, 98 ewes at 5s 3d, 126 owes and wetbirs at ss, 180 2-tooth wethers (sma'l) at 5s id. 138 aged ewes at 3s 3i, 160 merino ewes at Is 9d, 36 mixed ewes at 8s 9d. 50 lambs at 3s 3d to 3» 9d, 320 boilers at Is 3d to Ts -9d for m' rino ewes and wet bars, and 4s for mixed rams. Privately we sold 260 fat ewes at 6s to 7s 61,

Cattle—At Washdyke on the 19th inst., there was • fair entry of fat and stores, and a number of sales were effected. On the 26th there were a few pens of fat cait'e, bat no sales of any consequence were made. We quote beef at 16a per loo<b, and have sold as follows 4 fleers at £6 12s 6d, 2 cows at £4 10s, 2 cows at £5 12s 6d, ,1 cow at £3 15~, 12 store cows at from 27s 61 to *2 ss, ci steers at £B, 9 calves at 5s to 12s, and (privately) 19 head fat cattle and 4 calves.

Skins—At our sales of skins prices were about equal to late quotations.

ENGLISH MARKETS

London, May 24. New Zealand 5 per cent stock 105 ; consnU 10l£.

300,000 bales of wool have arrived tor the next series of auctions.

The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,400,000 quarters. The English wheat crop is more favorable, owing to fine weather. May 25.

The ta'lnw market is flit ; mutton is aellin-r at 24s to 25< ; beef, 23s to 23-s 6-1.

Tin* sugar market is firm. Herman best, 13',

Ui 'es nre in fair demand, and prices unchanged.

Kauri gum is a; last quotations. May 26.

Wheat.—Off coast cargoes aod shipments, »x warehouse, are unchanged. Prices for New Zealand, long-berried, are unaltered, being quoted at 84s''to 34s 6d.

New Zealand hemp, £2B 15s to £29 t May 27. A cargo of Aus'ralian wheat has been sold at 34s 3d.

Most of the cargo of meat by the Selembria was thrown orerboard. The remainder has been condemned.
