RABBIT CONFERENCE.
Sydney, April 23
Mr Bell, the representative of New Zealand, arrived here to-day, and look his seat at the Rabbit Conference, It was decided that Barulla station, near Wilcania, should be secured, and experiments with M. Pasteur’s scheme of microbes be conducted there,
April 24.
M. Pasteur’s representative has ciis c'osed to the Kabbit Conference on outline of M, Pasteur’s scheme. It is proposed to cultivate the microbes brought from Prance, and to spread the poiseu on berbage in the rabbit-infectod districts. In the, event of a scarcity ot natural food artificial fodder will be used. Rabbits taking the poisoned food will die in twenty-four to thirty hours, and after death will communicate the disease to other rabbits so that the virus will spread by a natural process. It is not anticipated that any danger will arise from the decomposition of the rabbits killed, as upon feeling the effects of the poison they will retreat to the burrows and die there, being practically buried. Experiments are to be commenced immediately on sheep, horses, goats, and a variety of other animals, and will probably extend over a period of two months.
