AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held yesterday eyening. Present—Messrs IS. Lee (Chairman), Edgeler, and Proudlock. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were rea l and confirmed. COIBESPONDENCB. Correspondence was received from The Treasury Department, Wellington, intimating that the sum of £6 14s 3d for rates due on Crown lands had been "remitted to the credit of the Board at the Bank of New Zealand, Temuka. From the Property Tax Department, stating that a voucher for the payment of £8 2s lid, being an advance of 75 per cent, on account of subsidy due <o the Board under the “ Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act 1885 Amendment Act 1887,” had been forwarded to tihe Treasury. From the Treasury Department, asking for information as to the Board’s indebtedness by way of overdraft, if any.
From the Crown Lands Commissioner, advising the Board that the sura of £lll2s lid, arising from land sold within the Arowhenua Village Settlement from August, 1887, to January 31,1888, was in the hands of the Eeceiver of Land Eevenue, and that a voucher for the payment of same would be forwarded to the Treasury. The letter further intimated that it would be necessary for the Board under clause 127 of Land Act 1885, to show upon what portion of the road they intended to expend the money.—On the motion of Mr Edgeler, seconded by Mr Proudlock, the Clerk was instructed to write for more explicit information in connection with amount due on deferredpayment sections, Mr J. Mclnnes wrote asking that a plank might be put across the creek in Ormsby Street, and also drawing the attention of the Board to unfenced gravel pit in Maude street;—lt was resolved that the Clerk notify that fences must be removed from all roads where traffic has been interfered with. He was further instructed to report on the fencing of the gravel reserve.
overseer's report. The Overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows : Gentlemen, — I have the honor to report that during the month no work has been done in the township with the exception of some cleaning about the Board’s premises. The creek will have to be cleared of watercress shortly, and I would suggest th«t the work bo let in two or more contracts, tenders to be in by next Board day. The rates have come in fairly well, but there is at present £l3 9s lid outstanding. The greater part of this is, however, eas ! ly collectable.— I have, etc,,

The Clerk was instructed to invite tenders for cleaning the creek, and was authorised to accept same.
ACCOUNTS.
Accounts amounting to £l6 15s were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
