At a meeting of the creditors in the bankrupt estate of Willoughby Brassey, solicitor, Gisborne, the following resolution was passed That the Official Assignee be instructed to taka all steps necessary to prevent the debtor getting his discharge till he has paid his creditors 20ein the £." Frederick Bullen, pianist, was on Wednesday committed for trial at the Supremo Court at Hokitika for indecent assault on a littlo girl eight years old. Convict labor will not be employed at the fortifications in Auckland, as it is found that convicts could not be kept on the ground at night time. The Loyal Waikato lodge of Oddfellows have issued warrants for the arrest of their late secretary, W. J. Barlow, on charges of embezzling lodge moneys. He is believed to be in Sydney. The Minister for Public Works leaves Wellington for Christchurch on Monday. Mr Hudson, who was sent up by Government to Rangitiksi to investigate the Hess'an fly, states that nearly half the specimens he is keeping contain parasites. This of coarse means that nearly half the insects never reach maturity. He also states that he observed a large number of the flies, which are now proved beyond doubt to bo a parasite of the Hessian fly, amongst the wheat in the infected paddocks at Marton.
The majority of Ministers have under consideration the tariff proposals, which Government intend to bring down next session.
Mr James Cochrane, of Wakauui, Ashburton, lost four stacks of wheat, valued at £l5O, by fire on Wednesday night under circumstances which point to incendiarism. Philip Maguire, a small farmer living near, has bsen arrested on suspicion, and remanded for a week. Cochrane stated that Maguire and he had a dispute in reference to an account, and Maguire threatened to burn him out. Gibbs, Bright, end 00. are giving up business in this colony. A farmer named John Hickson has been committed for trial at Gisborne oo a charge of illtreating a lad mined William Sharkey, aged 18, The boy went to the farmer’s (where he had previously worked) for some vegetables, and was accused of stealing whiskey, and as he refused to lesvo when orrtered the farmer is said to have knocked him down, blackened both his eyes, knocked one tooth out, and jumped on him. TheN.Z,L. and M.A. Company have received advices that the Gore Factory Company’s cheese shipped in the cool chamber of the s.s. Kaikoura arrived in excellent condition, and realised 66s per ewt. The aame company's cheese stowed in a specially ventilated part of the hold arrived in fair condition and eold at an average of 62s per cwt, A shipment from the Wyndharo D>iry Factory hae not turned out well.
