THE RANGITATA ELECTION.

TO THR EDITOR. Sib,—Knowing you are a staunch suppor'er of Mr Buxton, and feeling sure that it will help his cause in the southern part of the Rangitata electorate, I take the liberty of informing you of the very favorable reception Mr Buxton invariably gets, and the feeling abroad is that if he gets anythktaf like a fair share of support. j south of the Rangitata river his chance* r of election almost amounts to a certainty. At Hinds, Waterton, Pennington, Willowby, Eakaia, Chertsey, Dorie, Seafield, Kyle, Pendarves, and 1 Wakanui, places that he has already spoken at, votes of thanks and confi- -w deuce were almost in all places carried unanimously and several of thesi „ meetings formed themselves into Committees and pledged themselves to use every endeavor to secure his return. I am not aware that yoaf have been informed of the wonderful impression Mr Buxton has made, and •■■ of the prevailing opinion that he is

A {ho man who ought to, and, as far as f ’ this part of the electorate is concerned, will, receive by far the majority of votes. He has met the electors m a manly straightforward way; has fearlessly spoken his views, and never asked a single man for his vote; while the Opposition button-holes every one he meets. I think, sir, it is only right that the southern part of the electorate should know the amount of support he (Mr Buxton) is likely to get in this part of it, and should feel obliged if you would write an article in your paper showing that if his southern friends do their part his return is assured. —Yours, etc., J. W. Smith. Ashburton, Sept. 21st, 1887.
