FOOTBALL.

On Thursday afternoon the Ternuka First Fifteen again tried conclusions with the First Fifteen of the South Canterbury Club, The visitors were lata in arriving, and were four men short. They, however, got two substitutes, and T-npuka playing two men short, they were then on level terms. Timaru played a very plucky game, and ara to be congratulated on the stand they made. In the first spoil Timaru had somewhat the best of the game, and Wood by a brilliant run succeeded in securing a try, Maclean took the kick, but failed to increase the score. On the ball being kicked out Ternuka rushed the ball into their opponents’ quarters, and after a series of sciimmages Dyson succeeded in getting across the fine. Gotten took the kick, but the ball being very slippery ho failed to score, and time was called, [n the second spoil Temukc. kept the ball wed up to th dr opponents’ quarters pretty well the who'e time, and G. Wlvin, from a neat pass from B-owru, succeeded in securing another try, but failed to convert it into a goal, the bad touching the post. Ternuka thus won the game by 2 points to 1. For Tiraaru, G. VJfoqdi Gooch, Lawrenson, McLean, LeGren, and Lough played well, and for the home team Gray, Dyson, G. and J. Velvin, Browne, Smith, and Franks did good service. Messrs Messrs fieap and Gordon Wood umpired for Temuki and Timaru respectively, and Mr J; L. Flint acted as referee. !

Towards the end of the first spell one of the substitutes that was playing for Timaru (S. Mcßratney) had his shoulder displaced. At lh« conclusion of the game the visitors were entertained at dinner at the Crown Ilote'.

On the same afternoon the Temuka Second Fifteen were trying conclusions «iili the Second Fifteen of the S.C.F.O. 1 . iiiuaru. Plaj commenced shortly after three, and during the first spell Ogilvie, tor Temuka, secured a touchdown, and Fish, tor Timaru, neatly potted a goal from th* field. In the second spell Temuka kicked off, and had matter pretty; well their own way untd the end of the game. A. Franks succeeded in getting three touchdowns for Temuka, but they were not allowed. Timaru thus won by 2 points to 1. For Timaru, Gdodall, Fish, Perry, Chisholm, and Mclntosh did good service, whilst Ogilvie, Franks, King, Bewitson, Bisset, and J. Clinch played well for their side. Mosers Blyth and Campbell umpired for Temuka . and Timaru respectively, and Mr George acted as referee.
