GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board's Office on Tuesday evening last. Present Messrs B. H. Pearpoint (Chairman), W. S, M.nlin, N. Dunlop, W, Berry, R. Taylor, J. A. Quinn, and J: MundelJ. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting and of a special meeting held during the month were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence was read and approved of. Inward was read as follows From Mr H. H. Pitman, Steward of Reserves, informing the Board that Reserve No. 1193 was vested in the Schoel Commissioners, who had no power to alienate any part of ic for the purpose of a cemetery. From the District Land Registrar, Christchurch, enclosing certificate of title for section No. 345. From the Clerk to the Geraldine County Council informing the Board that the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board had just made up their accounts. The amount due by the Board for the year was £2l, and it was requested that a cheque for halt the amount £lO 10s, be forwarded before June Ist next.- It was decided to draw a cheque for the amount.

( RESERVES. ; A list of the reserves, shewing the rents . received and the amount in arrears, was ; laid upon the table. overseer's report. Tho Overseer’s report was read and i dealt with aa follows: The Chairman and Members of tho Geraldine Town Board. Gentlemen, —I have the honor to report for your information as follows relative to work being done and other matters during tho month. Mr Brown and Mr Pruid have nearly finished the plastering of the kerbing. They are now doing it for Mr Kelman in front of Mr Riordai.'g. Thsre are several lengths on the other side of the street that never have been thoroughly finished, also in front of Mr Huffoy’s. Will the Board say what I have to do with the places referred to. I may say that we will need more cement, say about 10 casks, to pay back what ws owe and to finish tbs kerbing. As directed by the Chairman, 1 beg to report upon a small job which requires attention at the corner of the cemetery, which will cost about £ —. Receipts for the month have been as follows:—Bents, £7 5s ■ licenses, £6 Is ; asphalt, 12s, all of which have been paid into the Bank, —I am, stc., 0. B. Shuhsatt, Clsrk and Overseer. It was decided to carry out the necessary improvements at the cemetery corner. The Clerk was authorised te obtain quotations for the cement required.

On the motion of Mr Dunlop, seconded byMrMandell, it was resolved to rescind the resolution passed at a previous meeting that applicants for asphalt being done should pay the whole cost of tha same. Upon the motion of Mr Maslin, seconded by ,Mr Berry, it was decided—- “ That any person upon the Main Road applying to have asphalt laid down should pay half the cost where none has been laid down but whore some had been laid down, the applicant should pay the whole of the cost of the work applied tor. It was also decided that the Works Committee should inspect all the fences round the Board's reserves that are leased, and report at the next meeting, and that in future the specifications re fencing these reserves should be strictly enforced. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £3817s 8 J were passed for payment. FINANCE. The Chairman said that two fixed deposits, one for £SOO and one for £IOO had fallen due during the month, and that ha had re-deposited the former as a fixed deposit and placed the latter to the current account.

The action of the Chairman was approved of. The Board then resolved itself into a DOMAIN BOaRD.

The minutes of the last ardlnary and special meeting were read and confirmed. INSPECTOR'S REPORT.

The Inspector’s report was read. He reported that the contractor for fencing the Bush reserve had not done satisfactory work, and gave a long list of faults which the inspector had to complain of. FENCING BUSH RESERVE. Mr Richards wrote informing the Board that his contract for fencing the bush reset ve was finished and enclosing an account for a small amount of extras previously authorised. The Board decided to inspect the newlyerected bush fence the next morning (Tuesday) as the Overseer had complained of its not bring erected according to speoification. ACCOUNTS. An account from Mr J. Dean of £3 9s was passed for payment, subject to its being certified to by the Overseer as correct. Two other accounts amounting to £3 Is 3d were passed for payment. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chairman staled that the bank book of the old Domain Roard had been received from Chiretchurch, It was decided to sell the posts, firewood, and stakes now in the Board’s yard at an early date. TENDERS.

Tenders opened for the supply of iron gates, gateposts, etc,, for the Park, Only two tenders ware received, and it was decided that they should lay upon the table until a similar kind of work done by the respective tradesmen should be inspected, when one of the tenders will be acdODter*. .. The Inspector’s report was road. It simply drew attention to the resolution passed at the last meeting of the Licensing Bench re the drainage of the Geraldine Hotel.

A letter was read from the Clerk to the Licensing Bench, enclosing a copy of the resolution passed by the Bench. The letter was received. The Board then adjourned.
