CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 27th inst. : A fair amount of business (principally from a'ore parcels) has been transacted during the past week. Several largo lines of wheat have been taken for shipment and other orders are on hand for execution. Sydney advices for potatoes are not nt all reassuring to shippers, consequently the local market is comparatively ut a standstill. Wheat has a hardening tendency, but in the face of the large bulk held in store the riee must naturally be very slow. We quote tuscan and pearl (prime) at 3s 6d ; hunters, 3-* sd, with second quality varying from 3s 2d to 3a 4d ; whole chicken wheat is firm at 3s Id, broken at 2s 9d to 2s lid. Oats -Short heavy descriptions have slightly improved in value, and are now firm at Is 9£d for heavy feed, while milling are wanted at la 10d ; bng and inferior aorta are offering plentifully at Is 7d to Is Bd, with moderate business transpiring. Barley —After operating freely last week, malsters have not been so keen, but any p'ime lines are takeu at full values, viz., 4s; medium quality commands 3s 6d to 3s 9d, and feed at 2s 3d to 2s 4d. Beans are nearly all out of growers’ hands and are worth 2s. 13d to 3s Id. Peae—Prussian blues, true to name, are quiet at 3s 2d to 3s 4d ; feed are worth 2s 81 to 2s lOd. Grass Seed—The values are nominally the name a« last quotations, with but few transactions. Potatoes have plenty of sellers at 25s to 26s at country stations, but buyers decline to speculate at these figures unless for actual orders on hand. The majority of farmers are pitting, in the hope of an improved demand later in the season. .Dairy Produce—Butter has a fair enquiry, and up to 8d has been paid for prime tub of approved makes. Cheese is very quiet at 5d for loaf, and to 4d for large and medium siztfs. The above quotations are for delivery, f.0.b., Lyttelton, sacks extra.
