A sharp earthquake was experienced on April 20th, in the Island of Jersey. The tremor passed from west te east, but caused no damage. GAMBLING SYNDICATE. A colossal system of robbery by means of prepared packs of cards has been discovered at the Oasuo, Monte Carlo, on April 20th, The proprietors of the tables havs lost largely ; some accounts say to the tune of £40,000 in two months. Other speak of the affair as a serious commercial syndicate formed to fight the tables on a system, Olerks and markers were employed to mechanically play all day long at the three roulette tables, exactly as described, and they astonished the " administration" by their iucchi. Reports from Monte Carlo say some visitors have been in excellent luck lately, and Urge winnings are reported. An English couple, the husband being a lord, left on April 28th with a profit of £IO,OOO They had played for amusement. The croupiers implicated in the awindle mentioned above were arrested on May 6th and tried. One, who deals the cards, was sentenced to eighteen mouths, and ths other severely reprimanded.
