SUPREME COURTS.
Christohurch, April 4. At the Supreme Court fco-day, before Mr Justice Johnston, the following sentences were passed : —George Roscoe, for burglary, five years' penal servitude ; John Keeling, larceny, three years' penal servitude ; Margaret Josephine Lloyd, false pretences, two yews' hurt! labor ; Frederick Chas. Armstrong, forgery, three years' renal servitude; John William Anderson, breaking in and stealing, 18 months' hard labor; John Morris Willcock, forgery, twelve months' probation. Herman Groth was convicted of perjury and sentence deferred.

To-day Herman Groth, for housebreaking, was sentenced to 12 months' hard labor; Charles Morgan, receiving goods stolen by Groth, to 12 months on probation. William Milb-r, for indecency, William Brown and Duncan Mcintosh, for indecent assaults were acquitted. True Bil's havi been found against Dr Russell and Mrs Bowern. The trial is fixed for April 13th. Wellington, April 4.
The Supreme Court opened this morning. The Chief Justice made a few observations on Waters' case and on a ca?o of arson ugainst a man named Wamby. Crossley was found guilty of larceny, and sentence was deferred. Orabtree pleaded guilty to burglary at Knowles', to housebreaking and entering at Gill's, and breaking gaol. Sentence was deferred. Thomas Lawson, indicted for larceny, was found guilty, and sentence deferred. Arthur Gordon, indicted for assault and robbery, was acquitted. April 5. Wm. Crossley was sentenced to five year's penal servitude, and Tkos. Lawson to two years. Reuben Jiind, burglary, got 12 months. EUnry White, charged with setting fire to the Prince of Wales' Hotel, was acquitted. DtmEDiN, April 4. Mr Jußtice Williams in bie charge merely dealt with the cases, which are unusually light. Tbe following sentences were passed :—William Gilchrist Ross, for rape on a young girl, five years' penal servitude, with two floggings of twentyfive lashes each ; P. B. Boult, embezzlement, five years; David Kirk Rhodes, eiubezzlement, three years ; Chas. Brodie Cooper, for obtaining goods by false pretences, two years; Eliza Whittet, larceny, two years. In the case of Margaret Clark and Polly Price, charged with 'stealing from the person, a verdict of guilty was returned by the jury, after a long retirement, and each was sentenced to six months.

To-day Walter Birchell pleaded guilty to cattle stealing and was discharged on probation for two years. His brother Arthur was found not guilty.
The charge of perjury against Michael O'Donoghue, arisißg out of a case which prisoner brought against a publican for recovery of £35 alleged to have been iost in the hotel, but which was found on the Caledonian Grounds, was heard. The jury returned a verdict of not gnilty.
