WOODBURY PUBLIC SCHOOL.

The annual distribution of prizes in connection with this school took place on Saturday afternoon last. There was a very large attendance of the parents and Triends of the children, the schoolroom vbeing well filled;Mr J. H. Dean, Chairman of the School Committee, occupied the chair. Ho briefly opened ,i T 'e meeting with.a,-few remarks in which Tie reminded those present of the object for which* they had assembled that day. He then called on the maßter, Mif Crireavo«, to address them, which that' gentleman did at some length in an able and telling speech. Speaking of education be re* ferred to the fact thatsO’mihj of our criminals were well educated men. Mr Greaves pointed out that wh'at was needed was not only education but moral training, Education was a very excellent thing but unless it went band in',. hand with moral discipline and training it wai often better for people 1 if they' were never educated at all';' Mr'GibayiM’ remarks were much appreciated by those present. ' 4t the conclusion of the address a spading bee was held in which Standards Y., VI., and VII. took part Mr Greaves acting as questioner. The “bee" excited great interest and ammaaementjjthe winners being Eleanor Heatley and.C. Harris, who spelt teally well. The prizes were then distributed by Mrs Turton, who also acted as judge of the sewing;. Each child attending' the school received a book.
