THE CAIN POISONING CASE.

The following information has been laid against Thomas Hall, who is now undergoing a life sentence for the attempted poisoning of his wife “ The information of Thomas Broham, taken on Nov. 24, 1886, who saith that he has cause to sucpect, and does suspect, ♦b’t Thomas Hall did, on Jan. 28, 1886, feloniously, wilfully, and of malice aforethought, kill and murder one Henry Cain, contrary to the Statute made and provided.” The hearing of the charge will be commenced at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Timaru, on Monday next. It is then proposed to examine from seven to nine witnesses, and this done a remand will be asked for to enable the police to secure the attendance of several witnesses who are now in distant parts of New Zealand and Australia, Among thesn will be Mrs Newton, a daughter of Captain Gain end sister-in-law of the accused. It .is said that tie police have now obtained some ve y important new evidence relating to the purchase of the antimony. EVIDENCE CONCLUSIVE. A Wellington telegram states that the new evidence with regard co the charge against Thomas Hall of having murdered Captain Cain is most conclusive. Ministers, however, while admitting that such is the case, refuse to divulge anything specific as to its nature.
