COMMERCIAL.
CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the Blh inst. : Business in the grain and produce markets has been of a very limited character. Outside orders come sparingly to hand. Holders, however,' of grain are firm in their reserves, and for orders requiring prompt attention, full rates have to be given. The weather of Monday and Tuesday has again thrown back farm work—indeed the season generally is backward.
Wheat— The demand continues steady, neither buyers- or sellers being anxious to force the market, and iast week’s quotations have to be repeated. l Prime Tuscan and Pearl at 4s 5d ; Hunter’s, 4s 4d ; second quality, from 4s to 4s 3 Fowl wheat is still in short supply at 3s 7d to 3s lOd. Oats— A few lines have been shipped, and not quite so many large parcels have been, offering, but we cannot report any improvement in values; Should, however, an outside demand spring up this market would be found exceedingly sensitive. Local demand is only nominal. We still quote prime milling at 2s 5d ; short feed, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; Tartars and Danish, 2s to 2s 2d. Barley—A few lines of good malting have been placed at 2s 9d to 2s lOd, but the market is without activity. Inferior mailing has to be classed as feed, at 2s 4d to 2s 6d. Beans and Peas—Little or no demand ; prices nominal. urass Seeds—Ryegrass is working into consumption slowly, and prices are fairly well maintained. Cocksfoot is dull at 4d to 4|d for heavy seed. Potatoes are difficult to quit at any price, iSales have been made at 25s at country stations, but even at this figure lbs market is weak. Many growers are shipping on their own account.

Fat Sheep—Not a large entry,-, and the quality very mixed. The sale began dub, improved later on, but was very fluctuating; taken all through a alight advance on late values took place. Piime crossbreds sold at 15s 6d to 17s 61 ; medium weights, ;1 Is 6d to I3s 3d; merino wethers, trom 8a to 11s 6d ; ditto ewes from 10a 3d to 11s. A couple of drafts of shorn .sheep were yarded, and fetched, from, lls to lls 9d per head ; about per lb may be quoted as ruling values. Store Sheep A fairly large, entry, demand not over brisk. Lines of’ hoggets sold at from 6s to 7« lid ; shorn hoggets, 4s 6J ; a line of 4-tooth wethers. 10s 3u. Store Cattle—Yards well fi led; moderate attendance of buyers.- A pretty' good d emand was ahpwa.for r well grown cattle. Young so ranch sought for. Three-year-o'd steers sold np to £5 5s per head,; other sorts : at, prices lately quoted, Fat Lambs —A small number on offer, prices ranging from 7s to 12s Gd ; per head. Pigs—A moderate entry, small inquiry. 1 DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. Oats Transactions durifig the past' week have been on a.very .limited scale. Prime milling, nominally ; fltl'Ss 3d to 2s 3JI; bright short,feed, 2s l|d to 2s 2d ; common feed, 2s to 2s Id. Barley —No transactions J values unchanged. Grass Seed The market is fairly stocked. Best'machine dressed seed 6s to 5s 61 per bushel ‘"good farmers’ lots, eff old pasture, 4s to 4s 61. Butter—-Salt, p'entiful at 6d to 8d for prime ; fresh, in over-supply at 8d to 9d. Eggs—7fd per dozen. Tin-nips—2ls per ton. ' Carrots- 45s per ton.
Sheepskins At-Monday’s sale the following prices were current: Green skins—butchers’ crossbreds from 4s to 6a id ; butchers’ m'erinrisp 39 r 6d to ffs 4d; cpuotiy dry skins, from Is to 4a 4d. ; Hides—Dry salted (carefully dressed) lieavyi weights bring Up to 3| I per lb for picked lots i other descriptions range in value from 2d to 3jd per lb. ; Tallow—Primp mutton, £lB t0.£20 per ton; ordinary mixed beef and mutton, £l6 to £l7 10s,; inferior mixed,’ £l2 to £ls ; rough fat—prime, K)s 6d to, 12s ; medium, 8s to 10s; inferior, 6j to 7s.
