TEMUKA DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
| The monthly meeting of the ComImittee of the above school was held last Tuesday evening, Present Messrs jßrown (Chairman), Blylh, Gray, Davie, and Cooper. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed! HEAD MASTER’S REPORT.
The Head Master’s report was read. It was to the effect that (ho number on the roll was : Boys, 178 ; girls, 144 ; total, 322. Average attendance ; Boys, 137.9 ; girls, 107.1; total, 245. Highest attendance ; Boys, 148 ; girls, 117 ; total, 265. He also stated there were 35 cadets on the roll. There were six more in the secondary classes and this seriously increased the work of the staff. He would suggest that application be made for an additional assistant. The Chairman said it was a matter for congratulation that tbe attendance had gone up, from 231.3 to 245.7. They had now entitled themselves to retain all the teachers.
Mr Gray said he would move—“ That the Secretary be instructed to lay bt fore the Board the increase in the secondary school, and ask for further teaching assistance in conformity with the teacher’s report ” Mr Cooper seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Police, giving a return of the persons on whom notices had been served for their children school.— The Chairman said many parents had waited on him, and gave good reasons-for the absence of their children.
From the Board of Education stating that £5, and £l4 3« 3d had been paid to the credit of the Committee.
From the same, stating that the Board would not pay the sura of £1 17s fid asked for as it was not authorised, and the work done was within the means of the incidental fund.
From Mr Cross, asking for two days’ leave to go to Christchurch to be present at the conferring of degress.—lt was decided to grant Mr Cross’ request for leave of absence for two days to attend at the conferring of degrees at Christchurch. From Mr H. Cross, asking for the use of a room in the school, to hold eveo. ing classes.—On the motion of Mr Blyth, seconded by Mr Davis, Mr Cross’ applics(ion re night school was unanimously granted. 1 THE RECENT CONCERT. The Chairman said that with regard to the recent concert, they ought to pass a vote of thanks to those who had taken part in it. A motion to that effect was carried. The Secretary stated that the gross receipts of the concert wore £l2 ss, and the net proceeds £9 ss. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £5 2s 6d were passed for payment. STATIONERY FEES. The Chairman said he found that some classes had paid their stationery fees and some had not, but he hoped that the amount realised from that source would be better this year than in the past.
TISITOKS. Mr Cooper, Visitor for the past month, reported that certain repairs were required. With regard to Mr Cooper’s report, in which it was stated that shingle was required on the footpath inside the gates, and that the ropes on the swings were gone, it was decided to apply to the Board for the sum of £2 for shingle, ropes for swings, and hinges for gates. The Chairman was authorised to get a couple of loads of shingle on the path inside the gate. Mr Gray was appointed visitor for the ensuing month, and the meeting adjourned.
