RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Temuka —Wednesday, August 18, 1886.
[Before J. Beswick, Esq., R.M., and, D. Inwood and F. H. Barker, Esq. J.P.’s.] EDUCATION ACT. W. Bryant was charged with having neglected to send his child to school. Mr Brown, Chairman of the School Committee, said the child was now attending school, and asked to withdraw the case. The case was accordingly allowed to be withdrawn. LEAVING TWO WAGGONS ON THE ROAD. William Hopkinson was charged with having left two waggons on a high road without reasonable cause. Constable Guerin slated that the waggons were left on the road side about 60 yards from the Temuka bridgo. The defendant said he had left them there because be coaid not cross the river. There was no other road except through Martin Connolly’s land, He had notice not to cross it, and be coaid not carry the load over that road. His Worshipsaid he had rendered himself liable to a penalty of £lO, but would only inflict a penalty of 20s and costs. 7 CIVIL CASES. W. Storey v. Wishart—Claim, £3 10s. Judgment summons. The plaintiff stated that at tbe time he got jndgment the defendant sold; a horse, saddle and bridle and gave him £2 and went away. He had, not. seen him for 18 months after. He > bad offered to pay £l. Tho defendant said he was only getting 18« a week. When he sold tbe horse he only bad £7, and he bought things with it to go to the North Island.
Hii Worship : How much money have you now ? Defendant: Two pounds. His Worship : Then you will pay that £2 at once, and pay 5s a week until the debt is all paid. T|ie Court then rose.
