WAITOHI FLAT LIBRARY.
A public meeting in connection with the Waitohi Flat Library was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening, August 16th. Owing to the inclement State of the weather the attendance was rather meagre. On (he motion of Mr Uoore, seconded by Mr S. Scott, Mr J. Fraser took the chair. MINUTES. The minutes of the last public meeting were read and confirmed. REPORT. The Secretary then read the following report for the year ending July 3lst, 1886 “At a public meeting held in the schoolroom on May 26tb, 1885, Messrs J. Talbot, Scott, Moore, T. Orr, and J. Watson were elected a Committee for the ensuing year, and since that date Messrs J, Fraser and A. J. Andrews have been added to their number. Owing to the apathetic deposition of the public to* wards the library, the Committee deemed it advisable to reduce the annual sub* scription from 5a to 2a, a change which has resulted in a considerable addition to the number of readers. Daring the year books to the value of £7 were added to tho library, and the number of volumes now belonging to the institution is 271, 32 of which are in the hands of the tubscribers. At the beginning of the year the Committee placed in the hands of Messrs P. W. Hutton and Co an order , for the American Agriculturist, two numbers of which have arrived. Owing to some cause or other several books have been lost to the library. On the Ist of August, 1885, the balance to the credit of the library in the Bank of New Zealand, Temuka, was £7 3s, and the income dur* ing the year has been £4, making a total of £ll 3s. The expenditure for the same period amounted to £7 10s, leaving a balance in hand of £3 13s. There,are also subscriptions to the amount of 14s fid ■ now due. The general condition of'the books is satisfactory, but tho building is tadly in need of repainting, and several of the windows require readjusting, while the approach to the door would be all the better with a deposit of a load or two of shingle on it.” ' i ■ The report as read was unanimously adopted. COMMITTEE. On the motion of Mr Moore, seconded by Mr Scott, the election of a Committee for the ensuing year was proceeded with, when the following members were duly elected ;—Messrs J. Fraser, L. Scott, M, Moore, J. Watson, T. Orr, R. Redpath and D. Moore. 'y ‘ The public meeting then terminated. NEW COMMITTEE MEETING. j At a meeting of the Committee held immediately after the election, Mr J. Fraser was elected Chairman, and Mr J. Watson Secretary, Treasurer, and Librarian for the ensuing year. U was decided that all accounts should be paid by cheque, the same to be signed by the Chairman and Treasurer. On the motion Mr Moore, seconded by Mr Scott, it was resolved—“ That the library be repainted and otherwise repaired, the expense for same not to exceed £2, and that Messrs J, Fraser and T. Orr be a Committee to carry out the work." On the motion of Mr Orr, seconded by Mr Scott, it was resolved—“ That a rubber stamp be procured for the purpose of stamping the books.” Messrs Orr and Scott kindly agreed to subscribe 5s each towards purchase of same, and Messrs Fraser and Moore offered to subscribe the remainder. As some of the books had not been returned for a number of years, the Seoretary was instructed to write to the offending parties, requesting their return as soon as possible. The Secretary was also requested to draw up a complete catalogue of tho books in the library. Votes of thanks being accorded to the Chairman and Secretary, the meeting adjourned,
