Ran«oojt, Nov. 18. Advices from Major. General Prender gast announce that the British forces have captured Menhla. The fightinp was of a very stubborn character, ant' lasted fully three hour?. The whole Burmese position was carried by assault The British loss was slight. MajorPrendergast now advances upon Mandelay. [Menhla is a considerable town on the Irrawaddy, a few miles inside the Burmese frontier. It is fully 150 mile* from Mandalay.] Calcutta, No>. 18. Intelligence from Burmah states tba' the British forces operating nn the Irra waddy captured Menhla without mucl opposition. An obstinate resistaner was however, made by the enemy at the palace on the opposite side of the-river The engagement, lasting several hours, ultimately resulted in the British drivim out the Burmese and inflicting heavy loss.
