The second day's racing of the Victoria Amateur Turf CJuh'a Spring Meeting waf... ield onthe C»ulfield course to-day. Thr attendance of tho public was large. Hi* Excellency Sir Henry Lock was present with his suite. The day's pleasure uaR marred by a fatal accident in the race fo> the Caulfield Cup, otherwise everything tended to secure a successful and en joy able meeting. No further horses were scratched for the Caulfield Cup the' result of which was as follows : Caulfield Cop, a handicao of 1500 sovs: first horse 1000 sovs, fee >nri 300 spv?, third 200 sovs ; one mile and a-ha'i. (Closed with 143 subs.) Mr Ji G.Reid's Grace Darling ... 1 i*fr M, Lonshlin's Britisher 2 Mr J. P. Coriobmiis ... 3 Forty-one horses started for this event, and after some distance had been gone Too Too was seen to fall, and in a moment Sardius, Tarpeia, Tom Brown, S'ro<'cr>, Prir.ce Imperial, Lord Exeter, Hiltup, Urara, Cluptnp, Despot, Lucky Hi', Kingship, and, Lord Wilton cam* to the ground |in one confused mass, fourteen horses in all haying fallen. Nicholson, who w.a* riding Lord Exeter, was killed, and Cracknall and several other jockeys were seriously injured. The horse Urara was also killed. The other horses continued tho race which resulted as ab"V6. Time—2;nin. 40sec. NEWMARKET SECOND OCTOBER MEETING. London. Oct. 15. The above meeting was continued today.
