The master bakers have resolved to form an association for Auckland.

Thomas Pollock, of Waikato, haa been arrested for larceny as a bailee of 321 sheep and 18 bead of cattle, the property of Wm. Foley, of Auckland. The stock was all disposed of at auction. At Wellington the Divorce Court case Webb v. Webb (wife petitioner), was adjourned until October Bth, In the case of Ryan v. Ryan, a judicial separation was only granted.

Two tenders have been received for the San Francisco mail service. The football match, Merival.e Club (Christchurch) v. the Union Club (Wellington), was played at Newtown on Thursday afternoon. The Wellington Club won by one try to nil. Considerable interest was taken in the election of three Borough Councilors at Hokitika on Thursday, osving to a lady being amongst the candidates. On the poll being declared it was found the lady, Mrs Hall, stood fifth, getting 86 votes out of 841. There were eight candidates. At a meeting of the Blue Ribbon Temperance Society, Christchurch,on Thursday night, it was decided to guarantee £IOO towards the expenses of Mr T. W. Glover conducting a temperance crusade in the colony, Sir William Fox has offered to contribute £SO towards Mr Glover’s passage, and to further contribute towards the guarantee fund. It has hitherto been the practice to allow selectors who had abandoned their deferred payment holdings to bid for tiiem again when put up. The Act of 1880 altered this, and at the Crown Lands sale at Dunedin, on Thursday, the auctioneer refused to take the bid of the parties who had previously abandoned the holdings. The Auckland police are carrying on a raid against the keepers of brothels and disorderly houses.
