ST. MARY'S CHURCH, GERALDINE.

On Tuesday last the Ven. Archdeacon Harper paid his annual visit of inspection to this Church. Vhe following members of the Vestry were present at the meeting which took place in the Church:—Dr Fish and Mr Hughes, Churchwardens, and Messrs W. E. Barker, J. Kelland, W. U. Slack, W. Willoughby, R. S. Cook, W. M. Moore, F. J.'S. Eckford, W. Coltman, and E. Hardcastle. The Rev. J. S. Preston was also present. The Ven. Archdeacon examined the hooks, etc., of the Church, and expressed himself satisfied with the state in which he found everything. A meeting of the Vestry was afterwards held in the Literary Institute, The Rev. Jas. I'reston presiding. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

The account for lepairsto the Church sent in by Mr Craigie, and laid before a former meeting, was considered excessive and referred back to bim for details of the charges. An amended account was now laid before the meeting, also a letter explaining that one item bad been charged in mistake. The account as amended amounted to £l4 lis Bd, and this was still considered excessive since as much as 12s per day was charged each for a man and boy, and it bad been an understood thing that nothing was to be charged for reporting on the Church and giving an estimate of the probable cost.—After a short discussion the matter was left in the ban is of Mr Uughes and Mr Kckford to arrange. The Churchwardens were empowered to get a competent man to report on the probable cost of the necessary repairs, the report to be laid before the Vestry. A rote of thanks was passed to Mr Thos. Sherratfor his kindness in repairing the harmonium in the Church and for lending his instrument while the repairs were being effected. This being all the business, the meeting terminated.
