THE DYNAMITE OUTRAGES.
London, Jan, 24. In connection with the dynamite outrages, it has transpired that a lady informed a constable who was on duty at Westminster Hall that she observed some men place a parcel m the crypt, und while the policeman was in the act of removing it an explosion ensued. Several monuments in the Hall were considerably injured. About 100 visitors had quitted the House of Commons just before the explosion occurred. The Peers’ Gallery and the Liberal Lobby were completely wrecked, The Opposition Lobby, the Strangers’ Gallery, and many benches in the House, together with Mr Gladstone’s and the Speaker’s seats were injured by)
the explosion, At the Tower the Armory roof was blown up by dynamite, which was placed on the staircase. Five persons were seriously injured, and 30, including several children, were slightly injured, A great many stands of armor were destroyed. Jan. 25. The policeman who attempted to remove the parcel of dynamite which exploded at Westminster Hall is dying from the injuries he sustained. The contents of the Banqueting Hall, the Council Chambers and the Tower were much damaged by water during the extinguishing of the fire caused by the explosion. A Canadian;sailor who was suspected of complicity in the outrage, and was arrested, has since been released, and an Irish-American has been arrested on suspicion. The whole of the country is intensely indignant at the outrage. Jan. 26, It is stated that the Government (stc) has received a letter disclosing the plans of the dynamiters who effected the recent explosions, and indicating the number of the band in London. The Press strongly appeals to America to enact vigorous measures against dynamiters, A man named Gilbert, the IrishAmerican who was arrested on Saturday in connection with the explosions at the Tower, has been examined at the Bow street Police Court, and remanded for a week. The perpetrators of the dynamite outrages are the subject of considerable execration in America, Great disgust is also expressed on the Continent at the outrage. M. Bayard has invited the French Senate to pass a resolution expressive of sorrow with England regarding the recent explosions. The police authorities have a clue to the person who placed the dynamite in the crypt in Westminster Hall. Jan. 27. The police are pursuing an important clue to the identity of the men who were engaged in the dynamite outrages at Westminster Hail and the Tower of London, and eight persons are now being closely watched. Washington, Jan. 26. In the Senate to-day a resolution ex« pressing abhorrence of the dynamite outrage recently perpetrited in London was passed.
