TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the above was held last evening. Present—Messrs Gray (Chairman), Blyth, Mason, Brown and Quinn. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

There were seven applicants for the position of clerk, etc., and on the motion of Mr Quinn, seconded by Mr Blyth, Mr Geo. Dyson was unanimously appointed, his duties to commence at once.

On the motion of Mr Mason, seconded by Mr Brown, it was resolved—‘That Messrs Gray and Blyth be appointed a Committee to select offices, and report within a week.’

On the motion of Mr Blyth, seconded by Mr Mason, it was resolved— ‘ That the Chairman and two members of the Board be appointed to sign cheques, and that the Bank of New Zealand, Temuka, be the Board’s bank.’ A letter wae read from the Chairman of the Woolston Town Board, enclosing copy of their bye-laws, and giving further information. He said the Act worked very satisfactorily, and the residents were much better pleased than they were under the Road Board. The Chairman said he had obtained Mr Aspinall’a opinion as to the amonot the hotel licenses would be, with this result : —For 10 o’clock license, £4O ;11 o’clock, £46 ; and 12 o’clock, £SO. Ha then read Mr Aspinall’s letter, in which the sections of the Act bearing on the subject were quoted, and the above conclusion was corns to.

Mr Quinn said as he was interested he would take no part in the proceedings, Mr Mason moved, Mr Brown seconded, and it wu carried—‘That the Chairman’s action with regard to the license fees be approved.’ It was also decided to obtain a common seal for the Town Board.
