THE TEMUKA TOWN BOARD ELECTION.

The first election of Commissioner! to constitute the newly proclaimed Town Board of Temuka was held onThareday. There were tea nominated, and great interest was manifested in the election throughout. All day the town. presented an unusually lively appearance, and a good deal of earnest canTassing for voters ttas resorted to. At the street corners for the most of the day there were to be seen groups of men getting up " sweeps " on the election and the chances of the candidate*. Ai almost every elector in town voted, and as they had an average of four votes each there was so large a number of voting papers to get through that it took the Returning Officer, Mr "Wills, Mr Dyson, who assisted him, and Mr Ashwell, who acted as scrutineer for Mr W. Btorey, au hour and a-halt to get through them. During this time a large number of people assembled outside who were on the tip-toe of expectation, apd amused themselves as best they could. About half-past seten the Returning Officer declared the result of the poll as follows :

The result was received with great applause, and there were calls for the elected Commissioners to come forward and addreas the electors. Messrs Gray, Blyth, Mason, and Brown thanked the ratepayers ior their expression of confidence in them, and promised to do all they could to forward the town. Mr Blyth proposed a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer, which was c*rried by acclamation, and the proceedings came to a close.
