YOUNG MEN'S CLUB.
A meeting, con Tuned by fcha Bey. T. A. Hamilton, was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Temuke, last Thnriday evening. There ttm about 30 of tha young men of the town in attendance. The Rev. Mr Hamilton, who occupied the chair, explained tha object of tha meeting. He dwelt briefly on tha a<i vantages of a Young Men's Club, in which the young men of iho town could me?t and amuse themselves at varioua gam--a. He also urged upon them the desirability of cultivating mnnly aporti and tastes. He then read letters from Mr Postk-tbwaite, M.H.R., approrijg of the formation of a club, and forwarding a donation uf £5, and promising an annuel subscription of £1 if it trera carried out as it should be.
The following resolution* wera carried : Moved by Mr O'Halloran, seconded by Mr Lucas*—" That it is desirable to f.irm a Young Men's Association in IVmnka, to be styled ' Tha Younsr Men's Club.'"
Moved by Mr Lucas, seconded by Vlr RnsseU—'•' That the Club havo for its object tba promotion of social intarcourrfe by providing out and indoor anin«cmeats, sncli a* athletic sports, lectures, debates, etc., ft r improving the mind."
Movt-cl by Mr Gurr, seconded hy Mr Ty7ouu'V—" That the affairs of the Ulub !>e by a Committee, consisting of the Pivsid'mt, three. Vice-Presidents, Oecieury, Treasurer and air members, to be elect.d annuuly, fire to form i

Mr Twomay thought it only fair to pay Mr Poatlethwaite some cotiiplirnont after the very handsome donation be had giv<»n. lie would more—" That Mr Postlfthwaite b« alectad a patron of the Club."
Mr tfi. Whitehead seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously. Mr Twomey proposed, Mr .Russell seconded, and it was carried—" That Mr Hamilton be elected PrejideoV
Mr Garr proposed, Mr Langridge seconded, and it was carried—“ That Mr O’Halloran be elected Vice-Presi-dent.”
Mr Lucas was proposed as a Vice President, but he declined, and proposed Mr Twomay. Mr Twomey also declined, and proposed—" That the Rev. Messrs Gordon and Wills be elected VicePresidents.—Carried unanimously, Mr Gurr proposed, Mr Burke "seconded, and it was carried —" Tbst Mr Lucas be appointed Secretary." Mr Ogilvie was appointed Treasurer, and Messrs E. Whitehead, G. Pratley, A. Nicholas, J. Langridge, G. Bolton and T. Thomson were elected a Committee.
Moved by Mr O'Halloran, seconded by Mr Dyson, and carried—- " That every member shall pay an entrance fee of 2s and a monthly subscription of Is; boys under 14 years, half price ; honorary members not less than 10s annually. Moved by Mr O'Halloran, seconded by Mr Chapman, and carried " That thi Committee frame rules and regulations and seek suitable premise*, and report to next meetisg to be held co Tuesday next, at 7 p,ra. precisely ."-.^/oh The Chairman intimated that the Oddfellows had given the use of the hall free of charge, and the carstaker had opened it and lit the fires lor nothing. (Applaase).
A Tote of thanka to tha Oddfellows and the caretaker ttas paised. During tb* evening a considerable amount of discussion look place as to what was best to be dons, and it waa generally understood it waa the intnntioi to rent suitable premises where various games, such as chess, draughts, single-sticks, boxing, horizontal-bar, etc., could be indulged in. The young man entered heartily into the matter, and almost all present gave in their names to the Secretary as members to the Club. There were very few others present, they •vidantly being detained by the election of tha Town Commissioners, but we feel confident th# young men will get the countenance and support of all the business mm of the town. The honorary members' fee is fixed at 10s a year, and we hope a great many will join on these terms. Tha meeting concluded with a hearty Tote of thanks to the Chairman.
