TEMUKA TOWN BOARD ELECTION.

TO THK BDITOI. Sir, —Kindly inform me whatqualifies a candidate for election to the Town Board ; and who are eligible to vote, I am, etc., Ihquirkr.

[As to the first inquiry, clause 16, of the Town Board Act says : “At the first election every householder within the district shall be qualified to be elected a Commissioner, but at subsequent elections no person shall be qualified to be elected a Commissioner unless he shall be rated for tbs purposes of this Act at an annual rental of £lO at least.” As to the inquiry as to who are eligible to rote, clause 17 says—- “ Every person whoso name shall appear on the electoral roll for any riding of the County within which the district is included and who shall own or occupy property situate within the district shall be entitled to vote at the first and any other election of Commissioners prior to any rate being levied under this Act ; and after any rate shall have been levied under this Act the ratepayers of tbs district and none others shall be entitled to vote as electors.” This seems to us to bo that ad persons who own property in the town, and whose names appear on the Temuka Road Board rate-roll are eligible to rote at the first election.
