On Thursday, at Mr Thomas Blair's farm, Peel Forest, under bill of sale, the weather in the morning was very inclement, but cleared, up by midday, at which time close on 100 buyers had assembled at the homestead from Ashburton and different parts of the district. Sheep, "being the chief feature of the sale, were keenly competed for, every line being sold, at the following prices :—Crossbred ewes (fat), 12s lid to 13s 5d ; do wethers (stores), 10s 9d ; do ewes, 9a 6d ; do lambs, 7s 3d; cull merino ewes, 3s 8d ; Leicester rams, £1 6s. Draught horses fetched from £5 10s to £ls ; two 6-horse waggons, £2O to £26; d.f. ploughs, £7; and other implements sold at satisfactory rates. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday at follows : Horses—An average number, consisting of 40 draught and light harness horses and hacks, were entered at their yards for sale, They have to report the general quality of the horses to-day as being extra good ; in fact, there were about 15 horses real good farmers' sorts, and though there was a better competition for these, they regret to say that there was no improvement in prices, and it was with very grsat reluctance that some of the really good mares and geldings were knocked down at the money offered. One extra good 5-year-old gelding brought L3l, and this figure may be quoted as th« very top price for the best class of draughts, the average price for these being to-day from L 24 to L2B ; for medium soits, from Ll 6to L2O; hacks, from L 8 to LlB, according to quality. At these quotations they sold about 20 head to-day. Sheep—There have been few transactions in store sheep during the week, the demand being now well supplied, and the different lots now for sale, with the exception of merino ewes, are inferior kinds, and in consequence the prices are easier. At the Washdyke, last Tuesday, they placed about 600 merino ewes at 6s. They have inquiries for Bheep for feeding off, but at present these are not in the market. Fat sheep—They have placed several small lines at prices equal to from 2£d to 2£d per lb. Cattle—At the Washdyke, last Tuesday, a number of very fair store cattle came forward for sale, but prices offered were under their value, and the bulk of their entries were passed in. They have no alteration in prices to report. Fat cattle —Prime beef is worth about 17s 6d per lOlbs. Wool, Skins, Hides, Tallow, etc.— They held their usual fortnightly Bale last Wednesday, when an average lot was submitted for sale.
