PROPOSED SPORTS ON ST. PATRICK’S DAY.

The near approach of St. Patrick’s Day has been taken advantage of by some of the residents in Geraldine, who have thought it would be fitting to hold athletic sports on that day. Accordingly a meeting of persons interested was called for Friday even! g last in the Grown Hotel, the attendance, however, not being large. On the motion of Mr Fisher, seconded by Mr Mundell, Mr Pearpoint was voted to the chair.

Mr Bowden briefly explained as to why be had called the meeting. It was a long while ago since sports of any kind had been held in the township, and he thought that St. Patrick’s Day would be as good a day as any for the purpose. He had spoken to several persons on the matter, and although he had been reminded that races were to come off at Pleasant Point on that day, yet he did not consider they would interfere with their carrying out a good programme of athletic sports successfully. He would suggest that a Committee should be appointed to carry out the necessary arrangements, collect subscriptions, etc. The following were then chosen as a Committee . Messrs Pearpoint, Mundell, Bowden, Taylor, Farrell, Sims, Cunningham, Eckford, Lawson, McKenzie, Denoou, and M. Connelly, with power to add to their number. It was decided to open subscription lists in order to obtain the necessary funds for carrying out the sports. The meeting then adjourned till Friday evening next, at the Geraldine Hotel, at 7-30 p.m., when the programme of sports, etc., will be arranged.
