RESIDENT MAGISTRATES COURT.
Temuka—Monday, Feb. 19, 1884. [Before J. Beswick, Esq., R.M., and D. In wood, Esq., J.P.] INSULTING LANGUAGE. William Henry Scott was charged on the information of the police with having on the 6th day of February made use of insulting language in a public street in Temuka. John Barrett stated that he lived in Arowheuua township, and that on the day in question the defendant met him in Temuka, swore at him, and said he would knock his head off. Constable Morton said be had beard the man making use of bad language. The defendant said be had a glass or two of beer and got excited over ibe election of the Licensing Committee, He was find 20s. civil cases. Siegert and Fauvel v. M. Ahern— Claim £3 0s lid. The claim was admitted and judgment was given for the amount claimed and costs. John Kahu v. Iraia Waaka—Claim £2. Mr Aspinall appeared for the defendant. This claim was for a fine inflicted by a committee of natives on the defendant, but as the Maoris appeared to have no authority to inflict the fine, the Court could not deal with .the case. The case of J, Blyth v. Kahu was adjourned till next Court day. The Court then adjourned.
