GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
On Thursday evening last the monthly meeting of the Comraitteej wag held in the schoolroom, at half-past seven o’clock. Present—Messrs A, Sherratt (Chairman), 6. Ward, C. E. Sherratt, Andrews, Dunlop, Shiers and Mundell. ! MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were passed as read, chairman’s statement. The Chairman stated that following up a resolution passed at the Committee’s last meeting, he had written to the Inspector and also to the Chairman of the Board of Education on the next day. The same afternoon he received a reply from the Inspector to the effect that he would endeavor to meet; the wishes of the Committee in regard to the postponement of the examination of the school, but with the view of halving the reports of examinations placed in .the hands of Committees prior to| the annual meetings of householders, he was
compelled to hold the examinations at an earlier date than had been previously the case. CORRESPONDENCE. The following inwards correspondence was read and discussed : From the Board of Education, stating that in future the Board would refuse to receive deputations from school Committees, unless the business they desired to bring forward was notified to the Chairman two or three days prior to the sitting of the Board. From the same, stating that the sura of £ll had been placed to the credit of the Committee for incidentals, in the Bank of New Zealand.
From the same, notifying the forwarding of school requisites. From the same, notifying that the Inspector and Secretary had been appointed to audit the accounts and books of the School Committees in South Canterbury, and asking that all books and vouchers be forwarded to them, together with the annual report to be laid before the annual meeting of householders. Enclosed were blank forms, in duplicate, re abstract of school fund accounts, to be filled in. Resolved—“ That the Chairman anp Mr Dunlop be appointed a Committee to see to all financial matters prior to the annual meeting of householders.” HEAD master’s REPORT. The Head Master reported the average attendance for the past four weeks to have been 167. The general attendance had fallen off through sickness. After having spoken to all the members of the Committee, he had taken advantage of a visit from the New Zealand Bible and Tract Society to Geraldine, and bad selected prizes for the scholars to the amount of £B, which sum he hoped to realise by means of an entertainment, which he proposed to' give. He enclosed result of pupil teachers’ examination.
Resolved— “ That the matter re pupil teacher be left in abeyance till next month,” VISITORS. Messrs C. E. Sherratt and Andrews were reappointed visitors to the school for the ensuing month. MISCELLANEOUS. A discussion ensued as to th dirty state the Good Templars had left one of the rooms of the school in after their last meeting, but as it was stated they would in all probability hold their meetings in future in their own ball no action was taken thereon, The meeting then terminated.
