MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday the 16th hist. Members present—The Hon J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs C. G. Tripp, J. Heney, R. Mackay and G. J. Dennistoun.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
The following tenders were then con sidered :
Contract No 14—Improving boundary road : Stephan Courtney," L 49 ; Joseph Whaton L 43 (accepted).
The tenders for contract No 15 being considered too high were declined, and the Overseer was empowered to let the work at his estimate.
The months coiresspondence was read bs follows : From the • General Crown founds Office, ■ Wellington, in reference to the subsidy of £ fur £ promised at ■ last session of Parliament to local hodi>s for the destruction of kens, and Mating that the money voted was to cover engagements entered into for the destruction of the birds in Wakatipu and .Waiia'ka County, and in the Mackenzie Country, so that there is none available for other districts. It was resolved—' That the further consideration of the matter be deferred for the present.'
From the Clerk to the Geraldine County Council, intimating that Mr C. G. Tripp'had tendered his resignation as a member of the Council.
From Mr C. E. Shaw forwarding the plans ot deviation of road in the Orari Go»-ge. From Mr F. "W. Marchant, forwarding plan of the new line of rood to the Opuha Bridge. From Mr Thomas Blair, requesting the Board to pick off all the. big stones on the road lints along his fences to enable him to grab up the gorge.
The Overseer was directed to report at the next, meeting as to the cost of the work and the distance required t» be cleared. From Mr John Hitch in reference to the proposed new road to his land at Rn in cliff.
From Mr Thomas Jeffenate, enclosing .a requisition signed liy several ratepayers in the JRairtcliff district requesting that the road leading from the iSpur road towards Faiiiie Creek he formed and opened up for treffic. A letter was also rctfdrjff]s|rr"Movers •Carriclt;* Ifailey ' ' andMcKellan requesting that the same road should be formed. Resolved—• That tenders he celled for the work.''
Mr Tripp informed the Board that he had, in company with Mr Mackay, inspected the road over Tripp's Pass and approved of the diversion of road line recommended by the Overseer. The Overseer's report was read and considered, when it was iesolvsd that tenders be called for repairing the Upper Rangitata road.
The Clerk was directed to forward the plan of the road in the Ornri Gorge to the Board's solicitor ,to have a .transfer of the land made .out. Accounts (o the amount of £412 6s 3d were passed for payment. Resolved—' That the next meeting ot the Board be held on Saturday the Ist December.
