THE GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The following petition is being taken round the County for the purpose of obtaining signatures and will, we understand, shortly be forwarded to His Ex cellency the Governor : “To His Excellency the Governor in Council.
“ The petition of the following electors in the County of Geraldine humbly showeth—
“ That the existence of the Geraldine Council is no longer desirable or necessary for the following reasons: — “ First—That the Road Boards within the County administer local affairs in a manner perfectly satisfactory to the wants of the district.
“ Second—-That the expense of keeping up a supernumerary body performing identical duties is, in the present heavily burdened state of the country, too serious to be allowed to continue.
“That all necessary administrations can be efficiently and economically performed by Road Boards, and therefore no reason exists for continuing an expensive and useless drain upon this district.
“We therefore petition that your Excellency shall at an early date proclaim that the whole of the Counties Act 1876 shall no longer be in force in the Geraldine County. “ And your petitioners will ever pray etc.’’
