[Before D. Inwood and ]»\ H. Barker, Esq's., J.P's.] FURIOUS riding.

William Parke was charged with furious riding in Woollcombe street, in Arowhenua, on Sunday, the 14fch October. The accused pleaded not guilty.

Archibald Russell remembered the 14th of this month, and deposed to seeing the accused on that day in a street near the Catholic Church. The horse he was riding was prancing amonast the people coming out of Church, Mid nearly ran over two of them. He could not say whether it,was galloping, cantering or trotting. Michael Qainn corroborated the evidence of the last witness, stating that the accused apparently made no effort to stop his horse. After the accused had made a statement, Constable Morton said he did not wish to prpss the charge against the : defendant, but wished everyone to know that they could not ride furiously when they did not see a policeman in the street. He intended to bring every case of furious riding reported to him before the Bench. The accused (there being no previous charge against him) was fined 10s and 5s costs, CIVIL CASES. Ackroyd v. Fergusson— Claim L 4 3s 4d After hearing the evidence of the defendant, who was put in (he witness box on behalf of the plaintiff, the Bench made""u an order for 10s per month, or in default' one month's imprisonment.
