CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS.
Messrs Robert Wilkin and Co., report : — On Thursday we held th» usual weekly sale of sheepskins, etc., in our N,Z. Wool Stores. There was a large attendance of buyers, and a brisk demand. Wecatalogued 1557 skins, which were all disposed of at rates slightly in advance of previous sales. Butcher’s cross-bred, large, 4s lOd, 5s 2d, 5s 6d ; do do, second quality, 3s Bd, 4s, 4s 6d, 4s lOd ; do, merino, large, 3s 6d, 4s, 4s 4d ; do do, second quality, 2s 6d, 3«, 3s 6d ; country cross-bred, large, 4s 6d, ss, 5s 8d ; do do, medium, 2s 4d, 3s Id, 3s lOd, 4s 6d ; do do, small, Is 4d, IslGd, 2s 4d ; do merino, large, 4s 3d, 4s 9d, 5s 3d ; do do, medium, 2s 3d, 2s lid, 3s 7d, 4s 3d ; do do, small, Is sd, Is lOd, 2s 3d ; pelts, late shorn, 3d, 7d, 10d, Is Id. Fat and tallow— There was a good attendance of the trade, and keen competition. Sixtynine packages were catalogued and all sold. Fat, best quality, clean and well saved, to 2|d per lb; second quality, to 2|d per lb ; inferior, at per lb. Tallow, in small lots, from 16s to 25s per cwt, according to quality. Hides, sound, dry salted, 3|d per lb ; wet salted, 3£d per lb ; damaged, 2£d per lb. Calfskins, sound, 3|d per Jb ; cut and damaged, l|d per lb. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, June 6. Shipping wheat is at ss, market weak and irregular ; malting barley 5s 6d to 6s, market steady; New Zealand oats in fair demand at 3s to 3s 3d foi feeding, and 3s 3d to 3s 4cl for milling sorts. Mauritius advices to May 24th report that the sugar crop tine season is estimated at 130,000 tons. 250 tons have been cleared for Christchurch, and 500 tons are loading for Dunedin,
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, June 6. Breadstuff are without quotable change. Adelaide wheat ex store is worth 48s, and New Zealand ditto 44s to 475. Adelaide flour ex store is quoted at 33s 6d. Australian tallow continues dull at 41s for best beef and 42s 6d for best mutton.
At to-day’s wool sale the catalogue comprised 9200 bales. The tone of the sales was quiet.
