FRANKS’ BEER.

We have been shown byMr Franks, of the Eclipse Brewery, in this township, the first prize silver medal awarded to him bv tiie judges at the recent, exhibition in Melbourne, for beer in bulk. It weighs o-er a quarter of a pound, mass’re. On one side is a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, surrounded with the legend “Melbourne International Exhibition, MDCCGLXXX.’ On the reverse side is a wTeath surrounding the words vitam excoltere per artes, the translation being “to cultivate life by means of the arts." On the broad edge of the medal are the words “ F. Franks, Temnka, Beer in Bulk." We are glad for thesike of not only Temuka, but for New Zealand generally, that such a prize was awarded to our local brewer ns he had persons of no mean repute to contend against for the palm of victory. There were 37 exhibitors from Australia, 2G from New Zealand, 17 from Germany, and 14 from Great Britain. The analyst to the Victorian Government was, we understand, chairman of the judging committee, and the samples were subject'd to severe chemical tests in regard to purity. We have to congratulate Mr Franks on his success, and hope it will prove the stimulus to a largely increasing business which he is so well deserving.
