MR LEACH'S MEETING.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Having been present at Mr Loach’s mating in the. VAunteer H .11 on Tuesday evening last, and listened to his so-ealied address to ihe electors, I sincere'y hope and trust that he will now open his ey.-s to the fact tint lie has been gulled by a few persons who were desirous of having a bit of fun at his expense. The very first question put to him by Mr Douovin would have been sufficient to any ordinarily trifled .individual to show that he was being made a laughing stock of by hi- fellow electors. But the resolution, Sir, that was put to the meeting and carried unanimously, was certainty the acme of this most ridiculous farce, and I had expected that Mr Leach, in the face of such a resolution, would have si.own himself a man and in as graceful a manner as he is capable of doing, come forward and in thanking his audience for their patient hearing of his views—especially in reference to his land scheme- intimate at the same time that as he did not possess their confidence he would retire fiom from the contest, intimating also the hope that . his Chairman would forward the resolution passed to the Hon. the Premier for his earnest eonsideratian. I have since heard, Sir, that Mr Leach intends, most earnestly, to contest the seat for Geraldine, and will address the electors in the various centres of the district in u few days as the working men s candidate. I would here most emphatically impress on your readers the fact that Mr Leach does not represent the working Men of Temnka or the County of Geraldine Political Reform Association, if I may be allowed here to express my opinion a.-d that of many another working man, Mr Haylmrat is the most suitable candidate and 1 hope U ‘ will he supported by that clas*. —I am, &c., An Elector. [We insert the above letter as it principally bears upon a political subject of the greatest interest at the present time. But we wish our correspondents to understand that we object lo insert their opinions on any candidate for Parliamentary honors, us they are simply advertising their merits, and should be paid for ap such in the ordinary course of business. — Ed. T. L.]
