In the House of Commons to-day, the Right Hon W, E, Gladstone announced that on account of the slow progress that had hitherto been made with the Irish Land Bill, and the opposition that had been offered to the passage of the various claustfl in Committee, Government, were compelled to ask the House for further facillities for the despatch of business. He therefore moved that the Bill be ac • corded absolute precedence upon the Order Paper, The motion, after some debate, was adopted. The Premier subsequently stated that Government Imped that the business of the session would be sufficiently advanced by the commencement of August to allow of the prorogation to take place on that date, Johann Most, editor of the Freiheit, who was last month found guilty on the charge of publishing articles justifying the assassination of the late Emperor of Russia, has been sentenced to sixteen months’ imprisonment with hard labor. The inter- University cricket match between elevens of Oxford and Cambridge was played to-day, and resulted in an easy victory for the former in one innings with 125 runs to spare, June 30. It has transpired that the French Government has communicated with Mahomet Izzet Pasha,Governor- General of Tripoli, complaining of intrigues that are being carried on in that Province to the detriment of French inter st in the north of Africa,and protesting against the hostile military preparations which it is alleged, are being made at the present time. The schooner May Queen has arrived here and reports that seven Kanakas and one European of her crew have been murdered by natives of the South Sea Islands,
