MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary; monthly meeting of- this Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday last. PRESENT. The Hon, J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs McKay, Tripp, Wilson and Heney. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted: — No. 24 Contract Shingling Ford’s road : Timothy Coffey, £37 14s 4d. No. 25—Cutting in Peel Forest John Casey, £42.. No.-26 —Sowerby’s road : Robert Burnett, £l3. No. 27 —Forming Clayton road : Michael Tangney, £6B. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read :and considered : From-the General Crown Lands Office,Wellington, forwarding a Government Gazette containing arf^Order in Council vesting reserve 2-167 in the Board.From? the Public Works' Office, in reference to the plans of the road in the Orari Tiver-be 1, stating that the matter had been referred to the SurveyorGeneral'. • From the Timani Harbor'Board, in reference to obtaining,an endowment /or carrying on the Harbor Works. The Board decided to co operate with other local bodies? in probuTing an endow--1 ment for the Tima/u Harbor Board. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch, in reference to the Board’s application for a reserve near Fairlie Greek for planting purposes. Resolved—“ That application be made in the form proposed by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and to state that the Board intends at once preparing the ground.” From Jir J, H.i Raine, with reference to the plantation reserve at Sherwood Downs,.and suggesting the necessity of draining the beforC planting.
The Clefk was directed to acknowledge the receipt of-the saniß with thanks, and' inform him that the BoarcT propose tfraiuv ing the swamp immediately. From? Mr in reference' to his contract for planting st Sherwood Downs, stating that he had planted thirty acres of the area, but had to abafldoh'theremaining part owing to its being all
swamp. t ■ .... The Clerk was directed to request Mr Fitzgerald to finish his contract, as the Board intended to drain the ground.
From Mr W. Wheelband, submitting a price for planting. The offer was declined for the present.
From the Rangitikei County Council, forwarding a copy of resolutions passed by that Council in reference to the existing condition of affairs in connection with local bodies.
Resolved—""That the Board agree with resolutions 1,2, 4, and 5, and that the Rangitikei Council be informed of the same."
From the Chief Surveyor, stating that tWe is no road line between sections 665$ and 15122, onUo section 3978. From Patrick Howe, declining to carry out his contract of widening the Clayton brideltrack.
Resolved— u That his deposit be forfeited and fresh tenders be invited for the worfc"
From T. Herlihy, offering to complete the Clayton bridle-track for the amount of his tender.
The offer was declined
From the Union Bank of Australia, informing the Board that two cheques--contractors' deposits—had .been, dishonored.
Resolved-" That in future any contrffctors' deposits being dishonored, the amount be deducted from the of the first progress payment on the work. Prom Mr T/. Jefcoate and Mrs M Owen and Middleton, requesting the Board to form the remaining unformed part of the Spur road, Raincliff. The overseer was instructed to report on the road at the next meeting. From Mr Thomas Blair, asking the Board to form a short length of road near Pithie's corner.
Tenders were ordered to be called for the work.
From Mr Robert Thew, asking the Board to form that part of the boundary road from Tripp's cutting to the end of tlie present formed road'.
The Clerk was instructed to call for tenders, and to call for tenders, and to inform the Geraldine Board of the application.
From Mr John Hitch, requesting that a new line of road be laid off to section 30203.
The Overseer was directed to inspect the proposed new line, and report at next meeting.
INTERVIEW. Mr Robert Tfcew had an interview withthe Board in reference to having the road formed from the boundary road to Lloyd'** cutting. The road referred to being in the Geral dine district, he was advised to make ap»plication to that Board. ALTERATION OP ROAD. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr' L. Harper requesting his permission to an alteration of the main road through the Raincliff run. overseer's report. The Overseer reported that the con-; tractor for No. 20 contract had met with. a serious accident through which he is" unable to carry out the work. Resolved —"''That in consideration df? the circumstances of the case the tractor be paid the value of the work dono : and the contract be cancelled.," . NEW WORKS. Resolved—" That tenders be invited for the following work:—(1) Draining, reserve at Sherwood Downs y (2) Fencing; .reserve near Fairlie Creek ;*(3) Forming I the roadr to: Turner's section, Waih& ■ Downß ; (4) Building a shed near Fairlie* Creek ; (5) Shingling Gartwrights road .Opuha ; (6) ShingHhgx near* Robb's -Opuha ; (7)* Widenfng?and' metalling the* main road, Peel Foreist; Accounts to' the amount ofj£7rs6 0s 13* were pissed for payment: and'the meeting;, then ndjourned. ~'....
