The motion was debated at some length, but was finally rejected by the Committee.
It is announced that instructions have been sent bp the Government to Sir George Colley, Governor of Natal, that lie should ask President Brand, of the Orange Free State, to inform the Boers that if they suspend hostilities, England will b 3 prepared to arrange a permanent and amicable settlement of affairs in the Transvaal. Feb. 11. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,230,000 quarters. Australian tallow, best beet, 34s ; best mutton, 37s 6d. Five per cent. The police have received information which loads to the belief of a Fenian plot to blow up Windsor Castle. The r turn of Her Majesty to Winchester is consequently delayed. In the House of Commons, Mr Childers, leplying to a question, said that Government had recently made an offer to Sir George Colley of farther strong reinforcements against the Boors and the offer had been accepted.
