TIMARU CRUSADERS C.C. V. TEMUKA. A match 1 etween the above teams was played on Saturday last on the local Park ground. The Crusaders left Timaru at 9.30 in an express, and arrived in Temuka about 11.30. After lunching at Ollivier’a Temuka Hotel an adjournment was made to the ground, when Timaru having won the toss, went to the wickets, play commencing about 1.30. The Temuka team were out of practice, and had a very poor chance against their opponents, who, although undoubtedly not the best team Timaru possesses, had at least taken some pains to lessen the chances of a defeat. Mr T. Ollivier deserves credit for the manner in which he brought his team together at so short a notice. For the Crusaders Hughes, Whitley, P. Jones, and Bowie disTnguised themselves at batting, and Lawrence, Hughes, and Shepherd did good work among their opponents wickets Wellsman, H. Smith, and Brown did good service for the Temuka team with the bat, and Bethune especially distinguished himself with the ball. The ground was not in the best possible condition, and accounts to a certain extent, for the large number of extras. The fielding on both sides was creditable. Messrs G. P. Wood and
umpires. St maps were about twenty minutes later the were on their way home, where they arrived safely, well pleased with their day's outing. If a return match eventuates it is to be hoped that theTemuka team will make abetter sliow Appended are the scores : CRUSADERS C.C. Isi INNINGS.
