RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, TEMUKA.
Monday, Ebb. 14, 1881. (Before N. Wood, Esq., R.M.) POLICE CASES. W. Ross and W. Smith were charged with fighting in the Crown Hotel on Thursday evening last. The case was proved hy Sergeant Carlyon. W. Ross was fined 10s or three days’ imprisonment, and Smith 20s or seven days imprisonment. DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. John Wilson vas charged with the above offence, and was fined 5s or 24 hours’ imprisonment. LARCENY. John Gaffney was charged nith stealing two shirts, the property of Sarah Jane Louis. Mrs Louis identified the shirts produced, and deposed to their bei' g taken from her shop between seven and eight o’clock on Saturday night last. She did not know the prisoner, and did not authorise any one to lake them away. Julia Lacey deposed to the prisoner coming to her house and asking her to buy two shirts. She gave him 2s for the shirts. The shirts produced are the same. The prisoner had nothing to say. His Worship sentenced prisoner to 14 days’ hard labour in the Timaru Gaol. civil CASES. B. Martin v. Thomas Park, jam, and Thomas Park v. Marlin, G'oss actions for trespass of catibn His Worship fined defendants in each case 5s with costs, 7s each. Marti iv. Park. — Claim £1 for damage to fence done by defendant’s cattle. Judgment for amount claimed and costs, I4s. Brown v. Hadliedd.—Claim £3 15s 7d. Defendant paid £2 17s Gd into Court. Tudgment for amount paid into Court, together with 10s and 7s costs. Murray Bros. y. Joseph Brown.—Judgment summons. Adjourn ed for a week.
