TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, the 7th December. PRESENT. Messrs Talbot (Chairman), Barker, Ensor, Paterson and Quinn. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read 'tmd confirmed. , DEPUTATIONS. Mr W. Story interviewed the Board requesting that an improvement be made in the water channel an the Main South Road in the neighbourhood of his residence. ■ ,
The Surveyor was ordered to look into the whole matter of water channels in that vicinity, and report by the next Board day, , Mr Wk«Rjand attended to draw attention to thrlf cate of the Canal Road.,; The Bor d resolved that the matter should be remedied, provided that shingle could be obtained free of cost ; and the Survey or to calTtenders for the work should he be able to get shingle in such a manner.
Mr W. McSheeby Gentlemun attended to ask the Board to have certain work done oo the road over Waitohi Dows. It was resolved that the Chairman and the Surveyor go over the ground together to tee what cun be done in the matter. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr D. Seaton complaining that the Rate Collector had summonsed him for his rates wrongfully, as he had paid them and held a receipt for the same. Resolved that the Clerk reply to Mr Seaton’s letter, and state that the Board regretted the occurrence, aud that the collector would be cautioned to be more particular in future.
From Mr Hayhurst iu re supplying shingle for metalling Boiling Down and Marshall’s Roads. ■ Resolved that tenders be called for shingling the same.
Mr W. Stewart having applied for a proportion of the amount expended as agreed upon in cleariug side of Stewart’s Road. Resolved that the Surveyor inspect the work, and report at next meeting. MISCELLANEOUS. In re plans, etc., for the Opihi Bridge, it was resolved that a Committee fiom Board wait upon the Geraldine County Council with all plans received, on Thursday, 9th inst., 'such Committee to consist or Messrs Talbot (Chairman), Quinn, and Paterson.
The Clerk was instructed to arrange for the conveyance of t’'e plans to Tiimru.
On the motion of Mr Talbot, it was resolved that the £5,000 fixed deposit at the Bank falling due be disposed of as follows, niz., £2,000 to bo put to the currant account, and the remaining £3,000 to be re deposited for three months. Mr Barkex proposed, and Mr Ensor seconded, that Mr Pilbrow be - engaged at a remuneration of £ to audit all the accounts of the Board, and to go carefully over the rate account and all the transactions of the Board for the year 1880. Accounts amounting to £SOO 6s 4d were passed for payment. tenders.
The following tenders were accepted : No 66, formation WaitohiG Grozier at 8s Hd per chain. No 67, formation and shingling Springs and Stewart’s Roads—James Smith, claying at Is 3d per yard ; shingling at Is 3d do.
No 68, Shingling Penny’s Road—James Cain, at 9d per yd. No 69, claying Obapx and Cross Roads— James Smith, L 23 5s 10, and 9d per yard for extra’s.
No 70, bridge Marshall’s Road—Wm ( Fletcher, L 69. After instructing the clerk to take the necessary steps to hold the election fo r three persons, in the place of Messrs Paterson, Quinn, and Ensor, who retire by effluxion of time, the meeting then adjourned. The Surveyor’s report having been read, the following works wore ordered : Seven chains of Allnut street to be formed. The diversion on Marshall’s Road, providing Mr Hayhurjt gives his written consent to the same. Tenders to be called for such portions of the concrete street kerbing as may be deemed necessary. The road applied for by Mr Park to be deferred for the present; also the crossing to McPherson’s late farm deferred. 'The meeting then terminated,
