TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Office, on Tuesday, the 2nd Nov. PRESENT. Messrs Talbot (Chairman), Barker, Quinn, and Paterson. MINUTES. The minutes of the last ordinary and special meeting of the Board were read and confirmed. DEPUTATIONS. Mr Harra interviewed the Board asking them to consider a matter relative to a drain on Cox’s Road, complaining that he had been deceived in the amount of work to be done in bis contract. Resolved that the Specification be adhered to.
George Cross astended to consult the Board with reference to an exchange of a grant Reserve in the Opihi River Bed offering to give acre for acre for the
same. The Surveyor was instructed to examine the place and report by next Board day. Mr McGlintock attended with reference to his contract (breaking stones, Waitohi Road), claiming payment for the same. Resolved that the specifications be adhered to. Messrs Lee and Edwards interviewed the Board with reference to a certain drain that had been laid down by permission of Mr Franks through the brewery premises, asking to be allowed to carry a drain for sewerage down the main Road. The Board sesolved that they could not entertain their application, but were referred to clause 181 in the Public Works Act 1876, which seemed to suit the matter in dispute. A. Watt interview ed the Board to ask tor a dray bridge over the Waitohi River leading to Smithfield but if dray bridge cannot be sanctioned to repair the present foot Bridge. The surveyor was instructed to report on the matter by next Board day. Mr Bissett applied to have about 7 chains of Stew'art’s road clayed ; also to enlarge the temporary bridge on the same road, and repair the approaches to bridge on Spring’s Road, and shingle about 5 chains of the same. Tenders were ordered to be called for the whole workMessrs Parke and Toner attended to ask the Board to form a road from the Boiling Down to the Sea Beach. Surveyor was instructed to report by next Board day. adjournment. The Board adjourned for a short time to allow a deputation, consisting of the Chairman and Mr Quinn, to go to Timaru to interview the Geraldine County Council in re Opihi Bridge. Upon their return the business was resumed. The Chairman reported what the deputation had settled upon with the Council, viz., to advertise for competitive plans for the bridge, offering a first and second prize of £IOO and £SO respectively for first and second best. Resolved that an advertisement be in-* serled in two papers in Christchurch, two in Dunedin, and the Timaru Herald forthwith . The clerk was instructed to have a certain number of copies of conditions prepared ready to supply to applicants. Mr Barker proposed, Mr Paterson seconded, and it was carried, “That Mr Bolton, the Rate Collector, is hereby authorised to sue for all rates due to this Board, and to personally represent the Board at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Tenmka, in support of such summonses.” correspondence . From Mr Hayhurst and sixteen other* ] asking the Board to use their best endeavours to have a road laid off leading from the Railway Terraco to the Milford Boad through the reserve lately fenced in by MrC. Storey. Resolved the Board will endeavour to meet the wishes of the applicants, and the clerk the Miuster of Public Works on the matter, and to send a sketch of the site, and also a c opy, of the applicants letter. From Mr H. Fauvel, asking the Board to have something done to the footpaths in Ewen Street and Allnut Street. The surveyor was instructed to report. From Mr Ensor, apologising for his not attending the meeting, of the Board, in consequence of severe sickness in his house. From the manager Bank of New ZeaIrnd in reference to fixed deposit for £SOOO falling, due. Resolved that the Chairman and Mr Quinn wait upon the manager to arrange the matter on behalf of the Board. REPORT. The Surveyor’s Report having been read the following works were ordered to be done Tenders for shingling Penny’s Road, Stones on the road near Rangitata to be carted off. Tenders for repairing road by section 10798 on the Waitohi. ACCOUNTS. Accounts for £305 2d, were passed for payment. TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted .- No. 60—Formation Spur Hut Road, T. Cartwright, 5s 6d per chain. No. 61—Shingling Road by Railway, J, Smith, 9|d per yard. No. 62—Drain by Mrs McKenzie’s, G. Latimer, 4s 7d per chain. No 63 —Drain Rolleston’s Road, John Connor, £l4. No 64 Foothpath by Brewery, G. Casey, £ll No 65 Bridge Swamp Road, John Langford, £59.
Valuation of District, George Dyson, £55. The Board then adjourned.
