The result of the elections, so far as known, shows —Ministexialists, .22 ; Opposition, 24. The former have lost four and gained two. The excitement is very great.

It is believed the Opposition have a small majority. The streets are thronged Collins-street is blocked.

The Age expects the final result to show the numbers to be 50 and 36. It is expected that the Government will resign immediately. The Catholics voted on the Opposition side at the elections. No dis turbances took place. Later. Williams, Fisher, and McColl have been returned for Manduraug ; McLean and McKean for North Gippsland, and Grant and Langdon for Avuca. It is txpected the Oppoiition will return 51 and the Ministerialists 35 members. A Cabinet Council will be held to morrow. It is believed that Ministers will meet Pallia ment for the purpose of obtaining a vote for supplies. The Catholics have largely contributed to the Ministerial defeat. It is believed Berry \vill exclude his former colleagues, except Patterson and Smit i.
Mata is the favorite, for the Melbourne Cup at 1000 to 50.
