Returns of the elections, so far as they arc known, sjiow tl at 271 Liberals and 141 Conservatives have been elected, showing' a majority of 130 for the Liberals. The total number of seats gained by the latter is 59, and their majority is already sufficient to make them quite independent of the support of the Homo Rule party. It is generally thought to be quite probable that Mr Gladstone will not accept office should the Liberals come into power. The election for Middlesex took place to-day, and resulted in the return ot the two former members, Lord Georgo Hamilton and Mr E. G. Cooptr. M/ 1 Herbat Gladstone, a son of tho exPremier, contested the election and was defeated. The Hon Mr Gladstone has beenelected for the Midlothian by a large majority. Three per cent consols 98$. Tho elections are still proceeding. The net Liberal gain is 62. Dublin returns , ono Home Ruler and a Liberal. The Hon. R. Low has been re-elected for London University. j
