Auckland, April 6\ At the Supremo Court to-day Frank Foxton, bank clerk, pleaded guilty to embezzlement, and was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. Sydney Beetham, for breaking and entering, and Thomas Hawkes, for embezzl«m-nt, were each sentenced to six months. In other cases sentences wero deferred. Wellington - , Ajril G. Thorn; son, a colored man, fn* stealing a cash .I ox and L3O, the jury after an hours deliberation, found the prisoner guilty of receiving the hox. He was remanded for sentence. ' The woman gave her evidence clearly and firmly, and did not vary when crossexamined. Considerable animation was seen among the jury when they weic called upon for a verdict, and one of their number, when put in the box, proved that the women had perjured on one point. This led to further enquiries, when a constable was found who proved to other of her statements to be equally untrue. The Crown Prosecutor then refused to proceeded. No int imation was given of a prosecution for perjury. Dunedin, April G. Butler, this morning, applied for a change of venue, on the ground that tho. public mind Was p.edjuced against him. The Judge refused to grant the application, but granted a posponement of the trial till Thuesday week, to enable the prisoner to prepare his defence.
