The Hewetts, —This talented company made their " first and last. " appearance in the Volunteer Hall on Saturday evening. The attendance was very good. Mr Frank Hewett surprised his audience by his splendid playing upon the cornet, violin, piccolo, and flute. He was repeatedly re-called for his masterly playing upon the cornet. The first part of the programme concluded with an apparently-mysterious scene entitled " Second Sight." In tho second part of the entertainment, Miss Eva Hewett favored the audience with a song, Mr Hewett accompanying her on the violin. Miss Hewett has a rich, sweet voice, and her excellent singing was received with enthusiastic applause. The evening's entertainment concluded w&h a laughable f.irce entitled "A. Ilusbsvril in Clover," in which the Hewetts (by their good" acting) caused much amusement, and sent the audience home in good humour. Correction. —At the close of our leading article in latt issue the word " minority " should have read " Ministry-",, It is quite evident the Liberals are in a majority, as we have stated all along. Thc,r.ow Parliament which meets to-day will soon prove the truth of our statement, unless a number of the socalled Liberals turn their backs npon the Liberal cause. Now that l?hey are elected, this is not impossible. ' Journalistic. —-There is oVrumor current in Ashbitrton to the affect that another journal will shortly make its in that town.
