CRICKET.
On Saturday afternoon a match betweexx elevens of Timaru and Teinuka was played on the grounds of the latter. The match commenced at so late an hour that time did not serve to complete it. Timaru got two inxxings axxd Tenxxxka one. The first innings decided the win to Timaru. A fair I'xxt very lively pitch had been prepared, but long grass spoiled both Fng hits and long fielding. The fii-st innings of Timaru was a very steady and even one, every man but the last to go in scoring snnxethixxg. In their second innings they all, with the exception of Lawrexxce, whose patience was properly rewarded, played with less care, and the acox'e consisted chiefly of Lawrence’s runs and extras. The innings of Texnuka was nxarked by a ran of ill-luck at the outset, several of the most reliable bats going out for little or xxotlxing. Things looked particularly blue for Tenxnka xxntil young Roberts, by some slashing hits, pxxt a different face on them. The bowling of Texnuka was very bad, with the exception of Carlyon’s in the second innings of Timaru. The number of wides bowled shows that practice in this branch is much needed. The following are the scores ;
