In view of the Afghan war an influential agitation is on foot to convene Parliament for November 15th. The Marquis of Lome and Princess Louise have sailed for Canada. In the inquiry into the Woolwich collision, the jury, after a long deliberation, found both vessels blameablc. Ellison was remanded for the gold robbery aboard the Avoca. .Scotland subscribed £170,000 towards the Glasgow Bank relics fund. Money is in less demand, and rates arc dropping. A reduction in the Bank minimum is expected. The Bank reserve has acquired fresh strength week by week. £11,500,000 are now in reserve. The stock markets show an improvement daily. Consols are firm at 9G. Australian securities have experienced a strong revival. The Yiotorinn four per cents

are quoted at 94, and Sydney ditto at'99. New Zealand five per cents, consolidated are quoted at 103, and New Zealand fdixr and a halves at 94*.
