MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordmary monthly meting of the above B-avd was he'd in the Road Board Office, Peel forest, on Friday, loth No. veinber. Present— Messrs C. Tripp (chairman), J. Henry, and J. Wilson. The following correspondence was read and consid red :
From Mr M. Mifton, dated 22nd Oct., requesting to have the road improved fx’om the Mount Peel station to section 21844.
From the Secretary to the Treasury, Wellington, dated 30th October, informing the Board that the sum of £2587 3s 6d had been remitted to its credit, being share of the surplus land x'evenue due up to (he 31st December, 1877. From the same dated 4th November, stating that the sum of £2701 Is Id has been remitted to the Board’s credit, being share of the amount at credit of the County of Gera’dine for the quarter ending 30th September last. From the Ashburton County Council, dated Ist November, in reference to repairing' the Rangitata traffic bridge, and informing the Board that the Council had employed Mr H gginson to report upon the bridge, and to recommend the alterations necessary to render it again fit for tx'afiic.
From the Colonial Secretary, dated sth November, with refereue--to the proposed alteration of (he Geraldine and Mount Peel Districts, and stating that it will be necessary that new petitions should be forwarded, signed by the ratepayers of the respective districts, setting out the territory intended to be affected From Sir T. Tailored, dated November 9th, informing the Board owing to his intention of leaving the neighbourhood he would be unable any longer to represent the district on the Timaru Harbour Board.
Resolved, “That the Clerk .apply to the Government for a copy of the Timaru Harbour Board Bi 1, also to forward the map of the District to the Survey Office, Christchurch, to be plotted up.” Resolved, “ That the sum of L 5200 be placed at fixed deposit for twelve months.” Resolved, “That tenders be invited for improving the road near Mount Peel
[Sfatxon, [from the end of the present ■'formed road to the top of the terrace near section 21844, the terraces to he eased, stones picked off, and the road marked out. Also for improving the road from Clayton Station over Tripp’s Pass.”
Resolved, “That the Clerk write to Colonel Packe, asking upon what terms he will allow a road to he taken through section 19994, starting at Trig, 143, following the spur to the angle of the >. road to the east of section 12770, and state that the Board has been that the road would benefit the Rainclift property considerably. Otherwise the Board will have to take a road through the same section near the Opihi river, . from the end of the present surveyed road from section 28057, to join the formed road in front of Landrey’s hut.” Resolved, “ That the Clerk write to the Geraldine Road Boai'd, requesting, that the road leading to the Rangitata railway station he improved, and put in a state of proper repair. After passing accounts to the amount of L 683 15s, the Board adjourned till the third Friday in December.
