Response to Churchill Auction Appeal at Hawera
The response at Hawera to the appeal for articles for Churchill auction was reported on by the secretary, Mr. J. H. Horton, at a meeting of the Churchill auction committee on Monday night. Among contributions received were two old books, one dated 1635 and the other 1777. Gifts were coming in freely at Wellington and other centres. Material of historic interest was in abundance in South Taranaki, said the Mayor, Mr. L. H. Clapham. Gifts could take the form of books, pictures, china, silver, autographs, documents of historical value and furniture. The auction sale is to take place at Wellington in October. An increase in the personnel of the committee was decided upon with the object of enlarging the area from which requests for contributions could be made.
